Participate in a full OR half day of coach education with USA Field Hockey and the NFHCA or one or the other

  • 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., Lunch (on your own)

USA FIELD HOCKEY Level 1 Instructional Clinic - Part 2 ONLY

  • 12:45 pm - USA Field Hockey Level 1 - Registration 
  • 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., USA Field Hockey Level I Certification, Part 2 

USA Field Hockey’s Level 1 Instructional Coaching Clinic - Part 2, is a 4 hour offering and will be held at The Madeira School in McLean, VA on Friday, July 7 from 1:00-5:00 pm following the NFHCA Ready2Coach Clinic.This Level 1 will be led by Coach Educator and Beyond Sticks Club Director, Heidi Lewis. This Level 1 is specifically designed for individuals with a basic knowledge and understanding of the game of field hockey. Individuals who are brand new to the sport are welcome to attend, but may find it difficult as the course covers a broad range of topics in a short period of time. This Level 1 clinic is the perfect opportunity for professional development and local networking. 

Level 1 Requirements: You must register for the Level 1 Online Course (separate registration) and the Level 1 In-Person Course - Part 2 in order to receive full Level 1 Certification. The Level 1 Online Coaching Course and Instructional Coaching Clinic Program is specifically designed for individuals that already possess a basic knowledge and understanding of the game of field hockey.

  1. All must first complete Part 1: Level 1 Online Coaching Course, then complete Part 2: Level 1 Instructional Coaching Clinic in order to receive a full Level 1 Certification. 
  2. In order for a Level 1 Certification to remain active and to take advantage of special USA Field Hockey Member pricing, all registrants must be registered as a current and active Coach Member of USA Field Hockey.
  3. To get the most out of the Level 1 Instructional Coaching Clinic, USA Field Hockey requires that all registrants bring completed tasks from the Level 1 Online Coaching Course to the in-person Level 1 Instructional Coaching Clinic for self-reflection and review.
  4. Once registered, an automated email will be received with the link to access the Level 1 Online Coaching Course.

The Level 1 Instructional Coaching Clinic will cover the following topics: 

On-Field Learning & Application 

  • Fundamental Skills of Field Hockey - Grip Management - Observation - Error Detection & Correction of the Skills 
  • Apply the GROW Model - line of questioning and CHANGE IT - How to make an exercise easier or harder depending on your goals
  • Designing Fun and Effective Training Sessions  - How to set up a Game Zone and Skill Zone Exercises - Small-sided games - Why game first? TGfU concepts
  • Identify - Implement Goals - How to reinforce behaviors

Level 1 Requirements:

Coaches interested in working in USA Field Hockey's Nexus Program must have a Level 1 Certification and a current USA Field Hockey Coach Membership to be eligible to apply.
